From the wrong audience to wider reach.
A dormant presence across three channels became a focused reach engine by resetting the audience and replacing static graphics with short-form video.

What was getting in the way. What we changed.
Identified problem
The content was reaching the wrong people.
Static posts and South Asia-focused targeting gave the three social channels little traction in the markets where Tropical Vista actually sells trips.
Our process
Reset the audience, then change the format.
We refocused campaigns on five buying markets, cut short videos from real trip footage, and connected each channel to a contextual WhatsApp enquiry.
What changed
Reach grew across the 60-day window.
Instagram reach rose 5,200%, while TikTok recorded 3,146 plays. These are platform reach results, not attributed bookings.

Facebook viewers
Facebook unique viewers, 810 real people, on 47.9% more views than the previous window
The two red cells are ours and they are deliberate. We stopped running the previous agency's "visit our page" static graphics, which is what Facebook page visits and follows were buying. On that swap, views rose 47.9% and unique viewers rose 201.1%, the page is reaching three times as many different people. For an operator who closes in a WhatsApp thread, a follow is not the sale.
Three channels, posting steadily, reaching nobody who buys.
Tropical Vista Tours had been on social for years, and the output was never the problem — the TikTok account alone carries a back catalogue and 1,925 likes. The problem was that none of it was aimed at a buyer.
Read the starting-point analysis
The previous agency's feed was built almost entirely from static branded graphics: holiday greetings, a Labour Day post, price cards, a Sri Lanka map, "message us on WhatsApp" tiles. On Instagram that content was reaching so few accounts that the baseline rounds to nothing, the 60-day comparison came back at +5,200%, which is what a near-zero starting point looks like, not a miracle. Meanwhile Meta ad spend was pointed at South Asian audiences for a business whose travellers fly in from Iceland, Germany, the UK, the UAE and the US.
Evidence: over the preceding window Instagram reached roughly 23 accounts and logged 3 content interactions in total; Facebook reached about 269 unique viewers; and no channel had a documented path from a view to an enquiry. The account was busy, not working.
Make the content travel to the right people.
Real trip footage, a clearer audience, and one enquiry destination gave the three channels a shared purpose.
- 1
Show the trip in motion.
Static graphics gave way to Reels and TikToks cut from real arrivals, rides, and experiences.
- 2
Reach the markets that buy.
Targeting shifted to Iceland, Germany, the UK, the UAE, and the US, with creative tested through organic content.
- 3
Give interest a next step.
Bios, links, and video end cards led to a WhatsApp message carrying the channel’s context.
Behind the decisions
Weekly: footage shot or sourced from live tours, edited, scheduled in Meta Business Suite Planner, published natively to TikTok. Monthly: an insights pull from Business Suite for both Meta properties plus TikTok analytics, read against one question, which format reached people who don't already follow. Throughout: the client's local team takes first reply on WhatsApp from a written quick-reply guide, so the nine-and-a-half-hour gap between Sri Lanka and the European markets never costs an enquiry. When Meta flagged the client's business portfolio mid-engagement, organic publishing was routed through a partner portfolio and an appeal was filed, we did not recreate accounts, which is how operators lose a page history permanently.
Show the trip in motion.
The inherited feed was static: price cards, greeting posts, a map of Sri Lanka. We replaced the calendar with Reels and TikToks cut from real trip footage, an arrival at Bandaranaike, a tuk-tuk ride, a tea-picking stop, published as native video first and cross-posted to Facebook from Meta Business Suite rather than re-uploaded. Instagram reach moved from a 23-account baseline to 1.2K accounts over the same window length, and content interactions went from 3 to 38. What we learned: on Meta and TikTok alike the distribution now sits in the video ranking, not in the page. A branded graphic is a poster in an empty room.
Reach the markets that buy.
The ad account's history showed spend concentrated on South Asian audiences. Tropical Vista Tours sells to Iceland, Germany, the UK, the UAE and the US. We rebuilt targeting in Ads Manager around those five markets, weighted toward Iceland where the director already has offline traction, and held paid budget until the organic content had proven which formats actually travel. What we learned: an audience mismatch corrupts every metric downstream of it, we could not read the old engagement data at all, because it was engagement from people who were never going to book a Sri Lanka tour.
Give interest a next step.
Facebook, Instagram and TikTok now route to one destination: a pre-filled WhatsApp message to the director, who closes more than 95% of the conversations he gets into. Bios, link stickers and video end-cards all point there, and the message carries the channel it came from so the reply opens in context. Facebook link clicks doubled to 6 in the window and Instagram profile visits rose 187%. Small absolute numbers, but they are finally the right numbers to be growing. What we learned: when the close rate lives at the end of the funnel, social's only job is to deliver a warm human into one thread.
Three channels. One next step.
Google Ads is now live on the same five markets, pointed at the rebuilt site rather than at the social profiles. Meta paid resumes once the portfolio appeal clears. No full reporting window has closed on either, figures land here when one has.
Short-form video
TikTok and Reels cut from real trip footage. Built to reach people who don't follow the account.
One asset, three placements
Published from Meta Business Suite to Feed, Reels and Stories. No re-uploads, no second compression.
Bio and link sticker
Instagram bio, TikTok bio and the Facebook page CTA all resolve to the same destination.
Pre-filled WhatsApp
The message carries the channel it came from, so the reply opens already in context.
95%+, same day
The director replies himself. Held across a nine-and-a-half-hour time gap by eight scripted quick replies.
A 60-day window the client can read in one sitting.
Reels and TikToks cut from live trip footage, cross-posted from Meta Business Suite, each ending on the same pre-filled WhatsApp handoff. The static graphics the account used to run are gone.
- Instagram reach 23 → 1,200 accounts in a 60-day window (+5,200%), with content interactions 3 → 38 (+1,200%) and follows 7 → 17 (+142.9%).
- Facebook unique viewers 269 → 810 (+201.1%) on views 1,488 → 2,200 (+47.9%), with link clicks doubled from 3 to 6.
- TikTok 3,146 plays from our first three posts, top post at 1,919, on an account base of 129 followers, roughly 24x the follower count in plays.
- Paid targeting reset from South Asian audiences to Iceland, Germany, the UK, the UAE and the US across both Meta and Google Ads.
- One documented enquiry path from all three channels into a pre-filled WhatsApp conversation that closes at 95%+.
- Facebook page visits (-49.6%) and follows (-50%) fell against the previous window. That was the format trade described above, not a decline, and it is reported rather than hidden.
Optimised for reach, and let follower count fall.
Reach and unique viewers increased, while Facebook page visits and follows fell. Both sides of that result are included in the report.
Why we prioritised reach
We measured this account on reach and unique viewers, not on followers or page visits, and accepted that two Facebook numbers would go down as a result. Why: the previous strategy's "visit our page / message us" graphics were buying page visits from an audience that could not buy a Sri Lanka tour, and for an operator with a 95%+ WhatsApp close rate the only metric that moves revenue is how many new qualified people ever see the brand at all. Trade-off considered: keeping a share of the calendar on the old graphic format would have held Facebook follows and page visits flat, and it would have read better on a monthly report. We gave that up deliberately. Instagram reach at 53x the baseline and Facebook unique viewers at 3x are worth more than two follows, and we would rather hand a client a red cell we can explain than a green one we can't.
Run out of Meta Business Suite, end to end.
Explore the tools and what each one did
Meta Business Suite
Planner for the full cross-property calendar, Insights for every figure shown above, native cross-posting so one asset serves Feed, Reels and Stories without a re-upload, and reads compared by format rather than by individual post.
Meta Ads Manager
Audience rebuilt from South Asian targeting to the five buying markets, campaign structure and creative split per market, budget deliberately held until organic had proven which formats travel.
TikTok
Native publishing, not cross-posted Reels, the ranking penalises re-uploads. Analytics read on plays-per-follower rather than follower growth, because plays are what the account is actually buying.
WhatsApp Business + Google Ads
Per-channel pre-filled deep links and eight scripted quick replies on the WhatsApp side. Google Ads live on the same five markets, pointed at the rebuilt site.
Platform incident handled, not escalated: a Meta business portfolio restriction mid-engagement was contained, organic routed through a partner portfolio, appeal filed, page and ad history preserved. Recreating accounts is the common reaction and it costs the operator everything the page has earned.
What the feed looks like now.
Instagram, 60 days
A baseline of 23 accounts reached and 3 interactions, now 1.2K reached, 38 interactions, 17 new follows. The 3 Aug spike is the first Reel cut from live trip footage.
Facebook, 60 days
810 unique viewers on 2.2K views, link clicks doubled. Page visits and follows down, the "visit our page" graphics that were buying them are gone, by design.
TikTok, first three posts
3,146 plays from three uploads on a 129-follower account. Top post at 1,919, roughly 15x the follower base, from a standing start.
What we learned and what comes next
Keep the right reach, then track the enquiries.
The honest one: we spent the first three weeks trying to make the inherited format better before accepting that the format was the problem. Sharper graphics on a graphics-led feed still reached 23 accounts. The lift only arrived when the shape of the calendar changed. Next: hold the Reels and TikTok cadence through the European booking season, get Google Ads to a full reporting window on the five reset markets so paid can be judged on its own numbers, and test Messenger as the handoff destination for the Iceland segment specifically, Nordic WhatsApp adoption is low and Messenger use is high, so the default handoff may be the wrong one there.
